PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate fundraising events including planning, recruitment and support for hosts and committees, promotion, logistics, fundraising and sponsorships
  • Coordinate and support activities with the Parents’ Association and volunteer networks at our host site schools and Alumni Network
  • Manage a personal portfolio of annual donors and corporate partners
  • Support alumni relations, including building and strengthening relationships with Teaching Fellow and Scholar alumni
  • Support production of marketing and advancement materials including appeals, event emails, social media, annual report, and campaign and/or constituent specific materials.
  • Represent the organization and be an active participant in the community through attendance at host school functions, events and committees
  • Ensure that all gifts are acknowledged in a meaningful, timely and accurate fashion and appropriately recorded in database
  • Support monthly and annual reconciliation with the Business Manager and Finance consultant.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Business Manager and CPO regarding outstanding pledges
  • Assist the Chief Philanthropy Officer in creating and maintaining an Advancement calendar, fundraising reporting, and donor engagement/cultivation strategies.
  • Receive and respond to donor inquiries with friendliness and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff to achieve Breakthrough Miami’s mission and goals
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of related job experience
  • Proficient in CRM database skills (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, GoogleSheets/GoogleDocs,, PowerPoint

Director of College Access

SUMMARY: The Director of College Access oversees all activities that support high school student college-preparedness, including all College Bound site programs. The director will build relationships with students, parents and key high school and college partners to help students build the life and leadership skills necessary to enroll in competitive colleges and pursue career goals. The Director of College Access plays a leadership role in developing program and research partnerships with University of Miami, and maintains mechanisms for ongoing engagement of BTM college-based alumni.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement a robust College Bound program that provides academic tools and real-life learning experiences and mentoring relationships that support on-time high school graduation and entrance into post-secondary plans

REPORTS TO: Managing Program Director

SUMMARY: The Site Director manages the staff and day-to-day operations of the school-year and summer programs at one of Breakthrough Miami’s six host school sites. This position is responsible for ensuring all program operations are aligned with Breakthrough Miami’s vision, mission and goals; and for continuously improving educational enrichment and operational processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school-year and summer programs for Scholars, Teaching Fellows, AmeriCorps Members, Instructional Coaches and Volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the program team to create a curriculum for the school-year and summer programs that addresses the organization’s college preparatory mission and fosters integration of site activities in support of common goals.
  • Ensure Scholar success through effective academic programming, experiential learning opportunities and school options counseling.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and train Teaching Fellows, Instructional Coaches, Volunteers, and Interns; working with team members to ensure timeliness and quality standards are met throughout the recruitment process.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, including Assistant Site Directors, Site Coordinators, Instructional Coaches, Teaching Fellows and AmeriCorps Members; holding them accountable for results.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the host school community, including the Parent Network.
  • Promote program engagement through the cultivation of other agencies and programs to expand the Breakthrough Miami network.

Assistant Site Director

REPORTS TO: Site Director

START DATE: Immediate POSITION

SUMMARY: The Assistant Site Director (ASD) is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services that most directly affect Breakthrough Miami Scholars and families. An ASD oversees campus or site logistics, unpaid student volunteers, some stipended positions, such as Teaching Fellows. As an ambassador of the program, the ASD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community and other stakeholders to ensure the academic and socio-enrichment success of all Breakthrough Scholars.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with Program Leadership to develop engaging and challenging curriculum models, and effectively implement these models during the school-year and summer program.
  • Provide current Breakthrough students with ongoing educational counseling and proactive academic outreach and intervention to ensure site achievement of all Breakthrough Miami objectives.
  • Manage programs and procedures for recruitment, admissions, scheduling and other activities for students and Teaching Fellows.
  • Supervise Teaching Fellows and other stipended positions. Participate in recruitment/selection; give ongoing feedback and coaching; participate in performance review process.
  • Manage unpaid student volunteers during the school year when there is no Site Coordinator.
  • Address incidents involving staff, students and volunteers according to established BTM practices; use judgment to escalate incidents to director level as needed.
  • Track student progress through grades, test scores, attendance, and other relevant data while maintaining up-to-date student data.
  • Manage family and student communication to foster maximum attendance and engagement.
  • Create and sustain partnerships with local elementary, middle and high schools for the purpose of student recruitment and student placement.
  • Manage site activities when Site Director is not available. Participate in and/or lead special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Program Intern

Program Intern

START DATE: October 1, 2019 – May 31, 2020

SUMMARY: Breakthrough Miami provides an academic enrichment program that uses a students-teaching-students model to ensure motivated, under-resourced middle school students have access to excellent high school opportunities, graduate from high school on time, and attend college. The program serves 1,300 5th through 12th graders. Interns will provide essential program support, such as mentoring, academic support, coaching, program planning and implementation, and other activities to contribute to the success of Breakthrough Miami Scholars. Interns will receive training in a variety of areas to provide them with a rewarding and progressive professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Administration

  • Answer phone inquiries, direct calls, and provide basic program information to callers
  • Organize documents and maintain files; photocopy and scan, etc.
  • Input information into student database
  • Track volunteer service hours

Leadership

  • Introduce productive summer opportunities to Breakthrough Scholars and monitor their engagement and completion
  • Cultivate positive relationships with Scholars and families
  • Assist Scholars through the middle and high school application process, including researching schools, completing applications, writing essays, and preparing for interviews
  • Participate actively in all training and professional development

Recruitment/Operations

  • Communicate with school partners and coordinate recruitment schedule
  • Assist with presentations, workshops and community meetings
  • Assist with creation of reports
  • Participate in outreach workshops at various Miami-Dade Public Schools
  • Research new partnership opportunities for recruitment and school year programming purposes

Requirements

Enrollment and eligibility of intern is subject to successful clearance of the above noted screens.

Compensation: Stipend – $200 per week

Breakthrough Miami (BTM) is an eight-year, tuition-free academic enrichment program that provides motivated middle-school students from underserved communities with the tools they need to achieve their most ambitious goals in life. Our students-teaching-students internship engages outstanding older students as teachers, mentors and role models, so that our Scholars enter and thrive in college-prep high schools and enroll in college. This award-winning program serves 1,300 talented students. More than 95 percent of our students attend public schools in Miami-Dade County, while participating in our enrichment activities on five independent schools and one university site — Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Gulliver School, Miami Country Day School, Palmer Trinity School, Ransom Everglades School, and the University of Miami.
