Emily Adams

Emily’s Breakthroughs are nothing short of extraordinary. A shining example of academic excellence, Emily has taken on an impressive roster of AP courses while a student at @PalmerTrinity.
Within our Village, Emily has been a two-time Breakthrough Miami Volunteer of the Month, served as a Teaching Fellow and Teacher’s Assistant, and led as the Breakthrough Miami Club President for two years.
Beyond Breakthrough, Emily gives her time to causes ranging from early childhood care and tutoring to youth advocacy and international health initiatives. Emily currently leads as Co-President of both Peer Counseling and Future Doctors of America. Her leadership stretches across her faith community as a Christ Fellowship Lead Student Volunteer, and she’s made waves as a swimmer for multiple local swim teams.
With awards in creative writing, world literature, French honors, and music, plus recognition in the Positive People of Pinecrest, Emily’s talents span far and wide. She’s a true Breakthrough Miami Scholar: driven, compassionate, and committed to making a difference.

Isabella Borges
“I will always be grateful to Breakthrough for giving me tons of opportunities to come out of my social shell. Being a Breakthrough scholar taught me during my awkward middle school phase how to be myself and motivated me to strive to reach my full potential. I’m grateful for all the people I have been connected (and re-connected) to because those relationships meant everything to me, and they still do today.“ – Isabella Borges
A graduate from TERRA Environmental Research Institute (@terra_wolves) with an incredible journey ahead, Isabella is a powerful blend of intellect, leadership, and compassion.
As a student, Isabella challenged herself academically through a rigorous course load, including AP Studio English Language & Literature, Government, and Calculus AB. Alongside academic excellence, she has been deeply involved in her school community as a passionate advocate for mental health through Wolves Wellness, serving first as Treasurer and now as Vice President. As a dedicated artist and musician, she’s also taken on leadership roles as Historian of the National Art Honor Society and Co-Principal Cellist in her school’s orchestra.
Isabella’s commitment to service runs deep. Isabella has been a core part of our Breakthrough Village since 2022, first as a Volunteer, then as a Teaching Assistant, and later stepping into a leadership role as a Summer Teaching Fellow. Outside of Breakthrough, Isabella has contributed her time to initiatives like Worth Beyond Weight, raising awareness about diet culture, and supporting countless donation drives to help those in need across her community. In her school’s Biomedical Academy, she served as a lab technician, helping guide labs and lead research projects that reflect her curiosity and love of learning.
Now, Isabella is preparing to take her next step as a @PosseFoundation Scholar at Mount Holyoke College (@mtholyoke), where she will continue to explore her passions and purpose. Though she may still be defining her exact path, Isabella knows she is committed to success and to creating a future full of meaning, growth, and impact.

Santino Sileo

An accomplished graduate from TERRA Environmental Research Institute (@terra_wolves) with incredible accomplishments that have defined his high school journey, Santino is destined for even more Breakthroughs in his future.
As an Honor Roll student at TERRA, Santino pursued a rigorous academic track that included AP and dual-enrollment courses in Chemistry, Calculus BC, and college-level statistics. As a proud first-generation student, Santino has shown an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, earning the @CollegeBoard AP Scholar with Distinction and Hispanic Scholar Recognition Awards.
Santino has extended his leadership skills to his community as Founder of the Greek Club and as President of the Engineering Club at TERRA. Whether competing with his school’s electric race car team to become the 2024 @InsideFPLElectrathon Division Champs, or earning first place in our Project Destined commercial real estate pitch competition, Santino has consistently proven himself as a visionary leader and team player.
Outside of school, Santino is a powerhouse of service and heart. With over 500 hours of volunteer service at @StAndrewGOChurch, he has supported community events and played a vital role in our city’s beloved @TheMiamiGreekFestival. He’s also shared his love for athletics as a volleyball clinic coach and has competed on the TERRA boys varsity volleyball team for three years.
Santino will continue his Breakthroughs at @FIUInstagram where he has been accepted into the Honors Program and awarded a Gold and Blue Scholarship. He will be majoring in Civil Engineering with plans to graduate debt-free, start his own engineering firm, support his family, and true to his roots, take a well-earned trip to Greece.

Kaitlyn Hernandez

Graduating from @BarbaraGolemanSrHigh and celebrating her incredible achievement of ranking in the top 3% of her class, Kaitlyn is a proud first-generation college student eagerly poised to make more Breakthroughs possible!
Kaitlyn’s academic journey has been one of excellence, service leadership, and a deep commitment to community.
Following her passion for serving others, Kaitlyn has taken on numerous leadership roles, including serving as Vice President of the Youth Advisory Committee (@tctyac), a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, an Advocacy Chair for @MiamiWaterkeeper, Director of Service for Bionomics, and Secretary for both the Lego and Art Clubs. Her dedication to community service is inspiring, as she helped fundraise over $23,000 for @LuvMichaelCo and organized a transformative playground makeover for @KhaliaMontessoriAcademy.
Kaitlyn’s service as a devoted community volunteer has earned her recognition from @univmiami and the @Town_of_Miami_Lakesfor her outstanding leadership and impact.
As a @QuestBridge Scholar and a @GatesScholars , Kaitlyn now takes her talents to Northwestern University (@northwesternu), where she will major in Environmental Engineering. Her dream is to become an architect who specializes in sustainable design, using her knowledge and creativity to shape a greener, more resilient future.

Linsey Chavarria
“Being a Breakthrough Miami Scholar has changed the direction of my life. It has given me leadership opportunities, mentorship, and valuable academic support that have changed my goals and self-confidence. I have gained toughness, a strong work ethic, and a desire to give back to my community as a result of this program. As a proud first-generation student graduating from Miami Senior High (@MHS_Stings), Linsey has exemplified determination, creativity, and heart throughout her academic journey. From challenging herself in AP Spanish Language & Culture to engaging in clubs like photography, WMHS TV and production, she has pursued her passions with purpose and focus.
Committed to service and community, Linsey is an active member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami), a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer at our @CarrolltonSacredHeart host site, and has previously participated in our STEPS 5K in partnership with @STEPSMia to support our Village and surrounding communities.
Following her storytelling spirit and passion for media, Linsey is now set to begin an exciting new chapter as she prepares to study Journalism at @MDCollege and later transferring to @uflorida, a step that aligns perfectly with her dream of building a career where she can tell powerful stories and make a meaningful impact on the world.

Sarah Saint-Louis
“Breakthrough Miami impacted my life in so many ways. I’ve learned how to communicate better, operate in the professional industry, and prepare myself for the real world. The program taught me how to work with different types of people, manage my time, and carry myself with confidence. Breakthrough also guided me throughout my college application process, offering support with essays, applications, and exploring different schools. Graduating from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High and embarking on an exciting new chapter, Sarah has displayed outstanding leadership, creativity, and dedication both inside and outside the classroom during her time as a student.
While at @KropSHS, Sarah challenged herself academically by enrolling in AP English Literature and Computer Science Principles while actively contributing to numerous clubs including the Black Student Union, Future Business Leaders of America, Technology Student Association, National Technical Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Best Buddies, and the Robotics Club.
Further extending her leadership to her community, Sarah served as Band Captain, President of the Black Student Union, Vice President of First Priority, Secretary of the Technology Student Association, and Co-Captain of her church’s dance group. Alongside her leadership roles, she has consistently given back through Volunteer service with Breakthrough Miami and @EvolutionaryArtsLife.
Looking toward her next Breakthroughs, Sarah will be attending @FIUInstagram where she will major in Computer Science and pursue her dream to make a lasting impact in the tech world.

Pherell Washington
“Becoming a member of Breakthrough Miami in fourth grade has altered my way of thinking. Breakthrough has provided me with the tools to take initiative, lead a team, and take charge in my community. In my high school years Breakthrough has provided me with the college readiness skills to present myself as a valuable candidate for many scholarships as well as colleges. I am grateful for everything that I have learned thus far and cannot wait to come back and share my future expertise.” – Pherell Washington
A distinguished honor roll student, Pherell ranks in the top 3% of his graduating class at @mnwbulls55, demonstrating true academic excellence and leadership. Throughout high school, Pherell challenged himself through multiple AP courses and dual-enrollment classes at @MDCollege, and prestigious university coursework with @BrownU, @Morehouse1867, and the @UofPenn, ultimately graduating with an Associate’s Degree along with a high school diploma.
Beyond the classroom, Pherell has demonstrated remarkable leadership, serving as President of the Poetry and Chess Clubs, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and Community Engagement Chair for the National Equity Lab’s International Advisory Board. Through Project Transforming Hope, @bbbsmiami, and the @Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program, Pherell continued to build bridges and uplift his community. His dedication has been recognized with numerous honors, including a @PosseFoundationScholarship, Carnival Scholarship, and a @MiamiHEAT Scholarship.
Pherell will soon be attending @PomonaCollege where he will join the Honors College and major in Politics. With aspirations to become a future lawyer while also keeping the door open to a path in medicine, Pherell is determined to use his talents and passions to drive societal change and make meaningful impact.

Zamiyah Meza
“Being a Breakthrough Miami Scholar has impacted my life, influencing my long-term goals, leadership abilities, and academic development. My motivation to learn was renewed by the program, the encouraging environment, and valuable and lifetime mentoring. It gave me the confidence to strive after big goals, a commitment to helping others, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. In addition to preparing me for success in college, Breakthrough Miami strengthened my drive to become successful with my goals in life and have a significant influence both inside and outside of my neighborhood.” – Zamiyah Meza
As part of her remarkable achievements as a proud graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School (@mnwbulls55), Zamiyah ranks in the top 3% of her class and is an Honor Roll recipient. With an impressive academic portfolio that includes extensive dual-enrollment coursework including English Composition and Psychology to Criminal Justice and Leadership Studies, Zamiyah demonstrates purposeful preparation for the future.
As a member of the @ARMYJROTCOfficialholding the rank of S3 1st Lieutenant, Zamiyah exhibits discipline and dedication. As an active contributor to her community, Zamiyah is a member of organizations such as Sigma Tau Delta (@EnglishMatters), National Honor Society, Zeta Rho Pearls of @AKASorority1908, and the YPD Youth Church Division. Whether volunteering with Breakthrough Miami, giving back through her church, or supporting AKA initiatives, Zamiyah leads with heart. On the field, Zamiyah flexes her spirit and athleticism as a member of the Varsity Cheerleading team and the Royales Flag Auxiliary.
Zamiyah will be taking her skillsets to the @UnivofAlabama, where she will join the honors program and major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Cyber Criminal Justice. With her sights set on joining the @USAirForce and eventually working for the Bureau of Justice Affairs or the FBI, Zamiyah is determined to make a meaningful impact on national security and justice.

Angie Muñoz-Ramos
“Being a Scholar has opened many new doors and opportunities in my life. Looking back, 8 years has felt so short and yet so fulfilling.” – Angie Muñoz-Ramos
A proud graduate of @DASHSchool, Angie is an honor roll student and a creative force with a passion for visual storytelling, leadership, and service. Angie’s academic journey and strong academic discipline led her through rigorous coursework, including AP and dual-enrollment courses in Studio Art, English Language and Composition, and Psychology, each building upon her artistic talents and intellect.
Heavily involved in extracurricular activities, Angie participated in a variety of student organizations, including the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and the Creative Storytelling/D&D Club. Providing leadership, Angie served as Co-Editor of both the Yearbook and the DASH Flash News school newsletter, and a Historian for the Spanish Honor Society. What began as a volunteer experience after her freshman year at our @CarrolltonSacredHeart site blossomed into roles as a Teaching Fellow and now a Success Coach, reflecting her continued commitment to mentoring.
As a National First-Generation Recognition Program honoree, AP Scholar with Honors, and recipient of multiple Scholastics Honorable Mentions in painting and photography, Angie’s achievements speak volumes.
Angie will be continuing her Breakthroughs at @FIUInstagram as a First-Generation student with a Blue and Gold Scholarship where she plans to major in Criminal Justice. Her future aspirations include working in education or with a CSI department, driven by a vision for a fulfilling life where she can one day own her own home and a store.

Caitlen Dauphin

A remarkable Breakthrough Miami Scholar and graduating senior from @GulliverPrep_, Caitlen is on her way toward the next major step in her academic and professional journey! A dedicated student-athlete, Caitlen excelled on the Varsity Tennis, Volleyball, and Basketball teams. She has earned multiple awards due to her incredible athleticism and service, including three Raider Awards, the Cooperman Award, and being named a @MiamiHerald Player of the Week. Additionally, Caitlen served as Vice President of the Black Student Union and was a valued member of clubs including the @AmericanRedCross, National Honor Society, and @HOSAFHP, exemplifying her commitment to community & excellence.
Caitlen’s heart for service is evident in her mentorship with organizations like LAB and DNA Basketball, where she’s helped guide and inspire the next generation of athletes. She will soon head to @UofTampa where she will major in Biochemistry. With dreams to work in forensic science and special government forces, Caitlen is on on her way to making many more Breakthroughs happen.

Sylvena Asse
“Being a Breakthrough Scholar has profoundly impacted my life’s journey by providing the tools, guidance, and support I needed to excel academically and personally. Since joining the program in sixth grade, Breakthrough has prepared me for college through rigorous academic preparation, workshops, and mentorship. Their commitment to my success has set me apart from other students by equipping me with the extra help and resources necessary to navigate challenges and excel in my studies. The program also fostered teamwork and collaboration with other driven students, creating an environment where we could learn from and support one another. These experiences have not only strengthened my communication and leadership skills but also prepared me to thrive in diverse settings. Marques Alsopp

Breakthrough didn’t just elevate my life journey; it was an integral part of it as I flourished from a scholar to a Teaching Assistant and eventually to a graduate.” – Marques Alsopp
Marques is a dynamic leader and Scholar graduating from @CoralReefHS who is stepping confidently into his future. With a rigorous academic background that includes ten AP courses and International Baccalaureate coursework, Marques has demonstrated academic excellence and a steadfast drive to succeed.
Beyond the classroom, Marques has been deeply involved in leadership & service. As President of @TheChildrensTrust Youth Advisory Committee (@tctyac), he led the organization of Sprout Fest, a community wellness fair focused on sustainability and healthy living. He served as House Speaker Pro-Tempore during the @FloridaLegion Boys State Program, assisting the House Speaker in maintaining order and business in the House of Representatives. As an Assistant Patrol Leader with the @BoyScoutsOfAmerica Troop 20, Marques has supported and uplifted his community, all while earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
As a proud Coral Reef Barracuda, Marques has also made his mark at school as a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and the Coral Reef English Honor Society. His achievements have earned him numerous recognitions, including being named a @5000RoleModels Wilson Scholar, a National African American Recognition Program honoree, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a @GatesScholars Finalist.
Marques has been accepted to @UFlorida and plans to pursue a career in robotics and mechanical engineering with aspirations to one day open his own firm and become a trailblazing entrepreneur.

Jaral Arroyo-Jefferson

Jaral is a brilliant student graduating from @RansomEvergladesSchool whose dedication and leadership embody what it means to be a Scholar. As an Honor Roll recipient, Jaral has taken on one of the most rigorous academic paths, completing challenging AP coursework in subjects like Calculus AB and BC, and three levels of Physics.
Jaral’s involvement spans outside the classroom. At Ransom Everglades, he has held key leadership positions including Engineering Lead for the Young Researchers Program, President of the Robotics Battlebots Team, and Academic Coordinator for Engineering and Data Science in the Science National Honor Society. He’s also a proud member of Mu Alpha Theta, the Spanish National Honor Society, and the Black Student Association.
Outside of school, Jaral is a dedicated changemaker. As a Junior Ambassador Alumni with @MiamiWaterkeeper, he’s worked on marine conservation efforts through beach cleanups, water quality testing, and shark tagging. Through @ASoccerLifeFoundation, he’s helped organize free clinics and scholarships while managing the organization’s communications. He has also contributed to meaningful community initiatives as a leader with @TheChildrensTrust Youth Advisory Council (@tctyac), organizing drives and supporting elementary school education.
Jaral will soon take his next step toward a future in Mechanical Engineering at Case Western Reserve (@cwru). His dream is to design the future of robotic space exploration as a space systems engineer, working with groundbreaking organizations like @NASA, @SpaceX, or @BlueOrigin.

Kendall Crapp

An honor roll recipient and standout student graduating from Robert Morgan Senior High (@rmec.pirates), Kendall has excelled both academically and personally throughout his high school journey. Through his commitment to education through dual enrollment courses like English Composition, Foundations of Fitness, and various internships, Kendall has proven his readiness for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Kendall has been a dynamic leader in his school and community, serving as Treasurer of the Class of 2025 Senior Board and 2nd Vice President of Top Teens of America, while also making an impact through the NAACP Youth Council, Bible Club, and GENTS at Sweet Home Baptist Church. On the courts, he’s brought his passion as a member of the Varsity Basketball Team, and off the courts, he’s served his community through initiatives like mentoring incoming freshmen, organizing Thanksgiving baskets for senior citizens, and supporting breast cancer awareness through four years of service with @PrayInPink.
As a Silver Knight nominee, Kendall exemplifies true leadership and service. He will be continuing his academic journey at @FloridaAtlantic where he will major in Civil Engineering. With goals of earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, Kendall plans to make the most of his college experience through community service, internships, and joining a fraternity.

Ronald Frazier III
“Breakthrough Miami has impacted how I see education. I used to think it was just all about learning new things and that was it, but Breakthrough taught me that understanding the things we learn and applying them into everyday life is important and I won’t forget that no matter how old I get.” – Ronald Frazier III
Graduating from Miami Lakes Educational Center (@mlecjaguars) as a passionate, driven, and community-focused leader, Ronald has made the most of every opportunity throughout his high school journey both in and out of the classroom. Following his passion of service leadership as an active member of clubs like @MiamiKappaLeague, Men of Tomorrow, @JackAndJillInc, the E-Sports Club (where his team won a @Valorant Championship), and Chess Club, Ronald has demonstrated a unique blend of technical skill, teamwork, and leadership.
From preparing meals and distributing care packages at @Camillus_House, to planting trees in his neighborhood, participating in toy drives, and volunteering at @Rainbow_CDC, Ronald has consistently shown up to serve his community. His volunteer efforts have been recognized by his community, having earned a Certificate of Recognition from MLEC, a Plaque from Men of Tomorrow, and a Certificate of Achievement from Breakthrough Miami.
Ronald will soon continue his journey at the Miami Lakes Educational Center @mlecjaguars& Technical College through the @Toyota T-TEN Program, where he will pursue a career in Automotive Engineering. With goals to become a master technician and eventually build a business with his partner, Ronald is well on his way to turning his passion into purpose.

Christian Perez

A proud honor roll student graduating from Coral Gables Senior High School (@coralgables_shs), Christian has thrived in a challenging academic environment, completing an impressive lineup of Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework. His studies have included Psychology and Statistics, Criminology, and European History.
Outside of class, Christian has proven his passion for leadership and service. As a @Starbucks barista, he has been responsible for mentoring new team members, teaching both technical skills and the art of customer connection. Christian also volunteered at our @UnivMiami and @RansomEvergladesSchoolhost sites for four consecutive summers, leading soccer and chess electives, and managing data with precision as the data team lead. Through his service, Christian helped create dynamic learning environments where Scholars could thrive. His involvement as a member of the @Carnival Scholarship Mentoring Program as an awardee, @bbbsmiami, and the National Honor Society further demonstrates his dedication to personal growth and uplifting his community.
Christian will attend @FIUInstagram as a proud first-generation student and is currently deciding between Mechanical Engineering and Health Science as his college major. He is driven by a deep desire to earn a master’s degree and one day purchase a home for his parents.

Melanie Fajner

Melanie is a driven and compassionate student graduating from Coral Gables Senior High School (@coralgables_shs). As an honor roll recipient, Melanie has demonstrated academic excellence through a challenging combination of AP, dual-enrollment, and International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework. From gaining knowledge in European History and Spanish Literature to exploring Criminology and Ceramics, Melanie has embraced every opportunity to deepen her learning and expand her horizons.
Melanie’s dedication extends far beyond the classroom. As a lead volunteer at our @CarrolltonSacredHeart host site, Melanie played an important role in cultivating positive academic spaces for Scholars, guiding and mentoring them with heart. She has also been an engaged member of IBHS, the Spanish Honor Society, and the Interact Club, proving her commitment to community impact.
Now, as a proud first-generation college student, Melanie is preparing to continue her educational journey at @FIUInstagram where she will pursue a degree in chemistry. With her sights set on a career in forensic chemistry, Melanie plans to combine her love of science and passion for investigating real-world cases and making meaningful contributions to society. She also remains committed to lifting others by continuing to support education and inspiring the next generation.

Daniel Diaz

His leadership and service is demonstrated through his involvement in Key Club, Interact Club, IBHS, and the National Honor Society.
Fully committed to bettering himself and his surrounding communities, Daniel is a proud member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami) and the @Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program, where his dedication and potential were recognized with a prestigious Carnival Scholarship. Jaden Pollard

Jaden’s academic brilliance, leadership, and heart for service set her apart as a Breakthrough Miami Scholar and graduating honor roll student from the School for Advanced Studies – Homestead.
Throughout her time at @SASWhiteTigers, Jaden enrolled in AP and dual-enrollment coursework, covering everything from Calculus and Government to Chemistry and Environmental Science. As a soon-to-be first-generation college student, Jaden will walk across the stage not only with her high school diploma, but also with an Associate’s Degree, a remarkable accomplishment.
Throughout school, Jaden served as President of Mu Alpha Theta, Secretary to the President of the Black Student Union, and Opinion Editor of the Newspaper Club. Utilizing her voice and community impact, Jaden also served as part of @TheChildrensTrust Youth Advisory Committee (@tctyac). As a proud member of our Village, Jaden served the very community that uplifted her as a lead volunteer at @PalmerTrinity, later earning her the distinction of “Breakthrough Miami Volunteer of the Year.”
Jaden’s exceptional efforts and outstanding accomplishments have not gone unnoticed, having been selected as a @QuestbridgeScholar, National African American Recognition recipient, and AP Scholar with Honors. Now, she is preparing for her next journey at @NorthwesternU where she will major in Chemistry and pursue her dream of one day mentoring the next generation of scientists. Jonathan Matute

Jonathan is an exceptional Breakthrough Miami Scholar and soon-to-be graduate of Miami Senior High (@mhs_stings) seizing every opportunity to make Breakthroughs happen. As an honor roll recipient and ranking in the top 3% of his class, Jonathan’s high school career has been extraordinary. From completing challenging coursework including AP Chemistry, Statistics, Environmental Science, and dual-enrollment courses to countless hours of service, leadership, and enrichment, Jonathan has proven himself a committed Scholar and changemaker.
Jonathan has taken on meaningful leadership roles throughout high school, serving as the Senior Class President, VP and Treasurer for the Italian Club, and Treasurer of the Future Educators of America. His involvement also extends to Mu Alpha Theta, BETA Service Club, and the National Honor Society, consistently leading with creativity and heart. As a Breakthrough Miami Teaching Assistant and Volunteer, Jonathan helped lead lessons, supported classroom learning, and contributed to daily program success.

Nerrissa is a talented and driven Breakthrough Miami Scholar and graduating senior from @DASHSchool. As an artist, leader, and first-generation college student, Nerrissa has used every opportunity to shape a bright & creative future. With a course load that included AP Studio Art: 2-D Design, Drawing, and English Language and Composition, she has refined her artistic voice and academic excellence.
Heavily involved in extra curricular activities, Nerrissa was a valued member of BSU, the National Honor Art Society, and the National Honor English Society, where she has taken on leadership roles including Vice President and Historian of BSU. Committed to our Village, Nerrissa has been a Breakthrough Miami Teacher’s Assistant, Lead Volunteer, and Supporting Volunteer, generously giving back to the community that helped shape her.
Recognized for her many talents, Nerrissa was named a YDSF Scholar and a @Scholastic Art & Writing Honorable Mention recipient. Beyond the classroom, De’Quea is an engaged & inspiring leader. As President of the National English Honor Society, she led her chapter in organizing events and fostering a culture of academic excellence. Janiya Dixon

Janiya is an extraordinary Breakthrough Miami Scholar and graduating honor roll student from William H. Turner Technical Arts High School (turnertechhs). A devoted student and academic leader, Janiya took on a heavy course load of advanced classes, including AP United States Government & Politics, Environmental Science, and Spanish Language, as well as dual enrollment coursework to prepare her for the demands of college.
Janiya has been a positive force in her school community, contributing to National Honor Society, @WomenofTomorrow, and @HOSAFHP, where she also served as Vice President, demonstrating her commitment to leadership and service. A bold athlete, student, and leader, Kiera is a Breakthrough Miami Scholar on a remarkable journey celebrating her graduation from @RansomEvergladesSchool as an honor roll recipient.
While a student at Ransom Everglades, Kiera challenged herself with rigorous coursework, taking AP classes such as Art History, Comparative Government and Politics, Calculus AB and BC, and Statistics.
Outside of academics, Kiera has made waves (literally) as a standout member of her school’s Varsity Swimming team, where she competed for four years and earned the distinction of team captain. As an engaged member of the Black Students Association, she’s also contributed to fostering a more supporting and empowering community on campus.
Passionate about supporting her community, Kiera participated in numerous volunteer efforts including cleaning local beaches and mangroves, and supporting food distribution programs, all while balancing academics, athletics, and leadership responsibilities.

Rakira Rowells

Rakira is a remarkable Breakthrough Miami Scholar and honor roll student graduating from Miami Lakes Educational Center (@mlecjaguars) who is ready to embark on her next “breakalicious” journey. Rakira’s academic accomplishments speak volumes to her character. In addition to her many successes, she will be graduating high school with her associate’s degree, having completed a rigorous schedule of advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses in subjects ranging from Macroeconomics and Biology to Criminal Law and Philosophy.
Rakira’s impact extends far beyond the classroom. She has been deeply engaged in student life through her active participation in Law Club, National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, Key Club, Black History Club, and Chess Club, serving as Vice President in both the Law Club and National English Honor Society, and as the Community Service Outreach Leader for the Kingdom KEYS Mentoring Program (@keysdreamz). Rakira has led with purpose, organizing community drives, tutoring younger students, and collecting and donating over 500 books to inspire a love of reading in others.
Rakira is celebrating her acceptance to @FloridaStateUniversity as a first-generation student where she will major in Criminology. Her ultimate goal is to become a criminal defense attorney who is committed to ensuring fair trials and seeking justice within her community.

Lissa Francisco

Beyond her studies, Lissa has been an active community leader and volunteer. Cassandra Padron

Cassandra is a vibrant Breakthrough Miami Scholar graduating from Miami Springs Senior High (@mssh_hawks) about to embark on an exciting new chapter at @FIUInstagram. As a proud honor roll recipient, Cassandra has proved her academic excellence through challenging curriculum that included AP courses in English Language, English Literature, U.S. Government & Politics, and World History.
Outside of class, Cassandra immersed herself in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including being an active member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), the Health Information Project, and serving as Treasurer of the Anchor Club, K-pop Club, and Student Government Association.
Cassandra’s heart for service is evident through her work as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer from 2022 to 2025 where she contributed to our Village in a number of ways. She will continue her academic journey at Florida International University where she plans to major in Communications.
