Volunteers are vital to the success of our program. Apply to become a volunteer by clicking on your preferred site below and completing the application. Following your application submission, a member of our team will contact you with next steps. Please be advised, if you are 18 and over, you will be required to complete a background check. In addition, all volunteers must complete orientation and training before starting.

Students & Student Organizations (K-12 & College)

Volunteer Lead- 

• Facilitates lesson plans for specific grade levels and ensures consistent engagement throughout the academic and elective blocks (School year only)
• Leads supporting volunteers through tasks of the day and maintains clarity of information through frequent and accurate communication provided by Site Directors
• Supports Site Directors with Scholar observation and safety protocols 
• Maintains consistent attendance throughout the year in various Breakthrough events

Volunteer Support- 

• Support lead volunteers and Site Directors in administrative tasks such as scholar and family communication, data entry, and social media management.
• Assist lead volunteers, Success Coaches, and Teaching Fellow in general scholar engagement .
• Assist Site Directors with general campus supervision and campus maintenance.
• Support Site Directors in the preparation and execution of site wide events such as field day, spirit week, multicultural day, etc.
• Support Site Directors in food preparation and distribution.

Teacher Assistant (Summer Only)- 

• Observe designated Teaching Fellow in order to become familiar with classroom teaching strategies 
• Attend all weekly workshops and department meetings which cover PD topics
• Work cooperatively with host Teaching Fellow to construct daily lesson plans
• Actively participate in teaching mini-lessons.
• Deliver full lesson based on PD strategies by the end of summer institute.
• Support Teaching Fellows during the planning and execution phases of academic instruction
• Meet proficient score on observation Teacher Assistant rubric in order to be considered for future employment with Breakthrough Miami
• Participate in Site Wide events such as spirit week, multicultural day, etc.

Special Engagement Volunteer- Students of any age are invited to organize supply drives, special workshops, clinics/tutorials, and special events.
