Throughout their eight-year Breakthrough experience, our Scholars have built skills, leveled up academically, fostered mentor and mentee relationships, and pursued countless opportunities to breakthrough to new heights. Our Village is with our Scholars by their side as collectively we give dreams the lift to breakthrough to their highest potential. ADRIEL CORTES

My experience being a Breakthrough Miami Scholar impacted the way I viewed many areas of life and studies. Through Breakthrough, I was able to jump around and experience so many career choices through electives I took. I was able to learn new things about each career, ultimately impacting what I want to do in life.Adriel Cortes

As a graduating student from Coral Gables Senior High (@coralgables_shs), Adriel navigated his academic journey with a strong sense of responsibility and determination to succeed. Enrolling in IB Coursework and Advanced Placement courses, Adriel is purposely positioned for future Breakthroughs.

Aside from Adriel’s responsibilities as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Adriel led as a board member and co-event planner for his school’s Chess Club, as a member of IBHS, and as a writer for Highlights Newsmagazine, completing multiple issues. Highly skilled in his craft, Adriel received an All-Florida award in digital illustration for his work in Highlights Newsmagazine publications in FSPA Fall contests, and two honorable mentions in other digital illustration contests for Highlights in FSPA Spring contests.

Seeking community involvement, Adriel volunteered at CavCamp (@cavsconnect) as a student helper and volunteered at his church assisting in organization and lighting.

Adriel will soon be attending @MDCollege to pursue a degree in accounting and earn a CPA, gaining valuable experience in the field along the way through internship opportunities.

ALEXA MONSALVE

Making #Breakthroughs possible is in Alexa’s nature. As a dedicated & engaged student at Coral Gables Senior High (@coralgables_shs) and Scholar at our @gulliverprep_ host site Alexa aimed high, making the most of her time as a student through rigorous coursework and extra curricular activities that would lead her to #Breakthroughs.

Seeking academic excellence, Alexa enrolled in IB Coursework and advanced placement courses including Psychology, English Literature, and Human Geography. Actively engaged in her school’s community, Alexa was a valued member of the Medical Club (AJML), the @nyahproject, Key Club, the National Honor Society, @bbbsmiami, and IBHS. Beyond her academic responsibilities, Alexa enjoys remaining active through cross country and track.

Understanding the power of giving back to her community, Alexa served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, garden projects volunteer, has participated in beach clean-ups, and tutors youth in our community.

Celebrating her #Breakthrough of graduating as a proud #FirstGeneration student and as an #HonorRoll recipient, Alexa has been accepted to @fiuinstagram, @nsuflorida, @floridastateuniversity, and @ucf.edu, and has decided on FIU!

ALEXANDRA PEREZ

As a model Scholar at our @gulliverprep_ host site, student at Miami Coral Park Senior High School’s (@miamicoralpark) AAA program, and #SilverKnight nominee, we know Alexandra is well prepared for her future! Alexandra excelled as both a Scholar and student, investing her time into advancing her education and bettering her community.

Advancing her education, Alexandra enrolled in numerous AP Courses including but not limited to Macroeconomics, Psychology, and Chemistry.

As a student, Alexandra demonstrated her passion for education and community through her involvement with Interact Club, Salsa Club, HOSA, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, First Priority, and as Key Club’s Junior Representative and President. As an active member of her community, Alexandra Volunteered for the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, and served as a Breakthrough Miami #Volunteer at our @ransomevergladesschool and @gulliverprep_host sites.

She also represented her community well as the 2022 Miss Carnaval Miami Teen USA.

Continuing her #Breakthroughs, Alexandra received a #BrightFutures Scholarship and a Presidential & Ambassador #FIU Scholarship.

Now proudly Breaking Through as a #FirstGeneration student, Alexandra will be graduating with her associates degree, an #HonorRoll recipient, and is celebrating her acceptance from @fiuinstagram!

AMY SANCHEZ

My experience at Breakthrough Miami has inspired me to become a better person. It has allowed me to want to inspire other kids, and help them just as the program did for me. This program has helped me decide what I want to be when I grow up, & has given me so many great opportunities such as being a part of the @Carnival Program and becoming a Teaching Fellow. An avid learner, leader, & student, Amy is a model Scholar. During her time as a student at International Studies Charter High School (@ischseagles), Amy furthered her education and expanded her knowledge by enrolling in advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including Psychology, Calculus, English, and Chemistry.

Putting her “breakalicious” energy into action, Amy participated in the Italian Club, Fitness Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, and the Girls Varsity Volleyball team. Pursuing personal and academic growth, Amy was a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami), the @nyahproject, and is an awardee of the @Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program.

Contributing to her community, Amy participated in several community service projects during the school year including beach cleanups, donation drives, car washes, park cleanups, and helping teachers organize their class. Additionally, Amy served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer and Teaching Fellow at our @ransomevergladesschool host site.

Furthering her impact, Amy coached the boys varsity volleyball team during seasons, leading drills, practices, games, and created rotations and line ups.

As Amy enters a new era of #Breakthroughs, she is celebrating a recent acceptance to @fiuinstagram. #PawsUp! 🐾

ANA GONZALEZ

Breakthrough Miami opened my eyes to the true opportunities I had, and assured me that my dreams were in fact within reach. Ana Gonzalez

When you think of a #changemaker, you might think of Ana. Profoundly passionate about uplifting those around her, Ana devoted her time as a student at @ransomevergladesschooland as a Scholar at @carrolltonsacredheart, to giving back to her community.

Ana was awarded the prestigious @questbridgeScholarship and will be pursuing her next educational chapter at @princeton! Ana is equipped with rigorous academic experience, having pursued multiple advanced placement courses including English, Psychology, Statistics, Biology, and Environmental Science. Engaged outside of the classroom, Ana was an active Rower from 2019-2022, and was a stroke seat on the boat that earned the Scholastic Nationals Champion title in 2022 in Philadelphia.

Actively using her leadership qualities to bring about positive change in our community, Ana has served as a Volunteer at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (@nicklaus4kids) since Summer of 2022, and Volunteered for Breakthrough Miami throughout her High School curriculum. In addition to her Volunteer experiences, Ana made #Breakthroughshappen as a Student-Athlete Wellness Coordinator, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society): Student Leader, Anatomy Coordinator for NHS,
and as a YREP Lead Numismatics (coins) researcher.

Entering a new era of #Breakthroughs, we know Ana will continue reaching new achievements and reach post-secondary success.

ANARI TAYLOR

As an #HonorRoll student at Booker T. Washington Senior High (@btw.shs), Anari demonstrated a passion for community involvement and leading positive change. Involving herself in extracurricular activities, Anari was a proud member of FCCLA, Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami), and the Overtown Youth Center (@oycmiami).

Beyond her responsibilities as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Anari actively volunteered at Dade County’s Fit2Lead (@fit2leadllc) program. Making physical #Breakthroughs happen, Anari dominates the courts as a basketball player and enjoys playing flag football.

A #FirstGeneration student celebrating her most recent Breakthrough, Anari will be attending Alabama A&M University (@aamu1875) to pursue a degree in sports management. In the future, Anari hopes to run her own business.

ANDREA HERNANDEZ

Breakthrough Miami has truly connected me with people and made me feel as if I could accomplish all of my dreams, regardless of how big or small they were. Andrea Hernandez

Andrea is an exceptional Scholar from our @palmertrinity host site with much academic success and Breakthrough spirit. As a #HonorRoll student at the School for Advanced Studies – Homestead (@saswhitetigers), Andrea excelled in rigorous classes, consistently raising the bar. Challenging herself academically, Andrea enrolled in numerous dual-enrollment and advanced placement courses including Algebra, Sociology, Calculus, and Macroeconomics. Through her many efforts to further her education, Andrea will be graduating with an associate’s degree.

Actively involved in extracurricular activities, Andrea was a proud member of the Key Club, National Honors Society, Literary Magazine, and served as historian of Welcoming Wellness.

ANIYAH UPSHAW

Making #Breakthroughs happen is simply in Aniyah’s nature. As a graduating student and #CarnivalScholarship Awardee from MAST Academy (@mastmakos), Aniyah strived for academic excellence, enrolling in advanced placement courses including Macroeconomics, United States Government & Politics, World History, and Biology.

Leading as a changemaker in our community, Aniyah served as a member of the Black Student Association Club, Hope Club, Eclipse Club, and as the Culture Club Party Organizer.

Aside from her responsibilities as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Aniyah led change as a Volunteer at Project Better Miami, @FeedingSouthFlorida, the @CoconutGroveArtsFestival, and as a Breakthrough Miami Teaching Assistant and Supporting Volunteer.

Celebrating acceptances into notable universities across the nation including @PaceUniversity, @MichiganStateU, @ArizonaStateUniversity, Texas A&M University (@tamu), @StetsonU, and @AuburnU, Aniyah is on track to make additional Breakthroughs happen.

Aniyah has committed to attending @FloridaAtlantic where she will pursue a degree in Psychology, grow financial wealth, give back to her community, and develop her leadership skills.

APRIL THOMAS

Being a part of Breakthrough Miami showed me what leadership is, has made it easier for me to effectively work with my peers, and has opened doors to many opportunities. A bright student graduating from Miami Central Senior High (@mcsh_rockets), April navigated her academic curriculum with a strong desire to drive impact in her community. Aside from her academic responsibilities as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, April served as a member of @WomenOfTomorrow, the Speech and Debate Club, Key Club, and Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami). As a true changemaker, April regularly provided advice to younger students at her school, serving as their mentor. Continuing her impact, April volunteered her services as an office aid.

Beginning a new chapter of her journey, April has committed to @MDCollege. Upon graduating, April will attend the Navy and study law, open her own clothing business, and become a successful lawyer.

AURA MATTHEWS

My experience with Breakthrough Miami was an amazing experience. I was able to create bonds with different people from different areas of Miami and come together as a family. As an #HonorRoll student from William H Turner Technical Arts High School (@turnertechhs) and Scholar from our @miami_country_day_school host site, Aura is purposely positioned to create new academic Breakthroughs. Pursuing a rigorous academic schedule, Aura enrolled in multiple dual-enrollment courses including Personal Finance at the (@uofpenn) and Principles of Criminal Justice at Howard University (@howard1867).

Exceptionally balancing her academic responsibilities and extra curricular involvement, Aura was a valued member of the National Honors Society, SHAPE, and HOSA. Seeking to make an impact in our community, Aura volunteered for Police Explorers. During her free time, Aura enjoys playing flag football.

A #FirstGeneration student celebrating acceptances into many notable universities including @BarryUniversity, University of North Florida (@UofNorthFlorida), @BethuneCookman, Clark Atlanta University (@cau1988), Nova Southeastern University (@nsuflorida), and @ValdostaState, Aura is excited to begin the next chapter of her academic journey.

Aura has committed to attending Miami Dade College (@MDCollege) and dreams of becoming an entrepreneur with her own business, “Breaking through” as a real estate agent and investing in stocks.

BIANCA MCLEOD

Being a Breakthrough Scholar allowed me to gain an advantage in my upcoming grades. I was able to learn things and be ahead of my classmates. I also went into my schools with some friends already, which was comforting as I transitioned into high school. Bianca McLeod

A changemaker with her sights set on achieving #Breakthroughs, Bianca made waves as a Scholar at our @PalmerTrinity host site. Graduating from Coral Reef Senior High (@coralreefhs), Bianca furthered her knowledge by enrolling in advanced placement courses including Macroeconomics, Psychology, and English Literature.

Seeking community involvement and making an impact, Bianca was a valued member of the Miami Select Volleyball Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Bianca’s leadership allowed her to serve as the SkillsUSA Chairwoman, Parliamentarian, and Chairwoman for Florida Public Service Association, and as historian for multiple clubs. Furthering her impact, Bianca volunteered for @MASKMission_ and Adopt A Family, proving her commitment to community.

As a #FirstGeneration student, Bianca will be attending @SantaFeCollege then transfer to @UFlorida and pursue a double major in Political Science & Public Relations. Bianca dreams of becoming a lawyer in either the entertainment or business industry.

BRADSHYR MORTIMER

Breakthrough Miami has been a sort of a torch in a tunnel for me. With Breakthrough Miami, I was able to see a little bit more clarity for the next step in my journey. Bradshyr Mortimer

As a proud #HonorRoll student, Bradshyr is eager to begin the next exciting chapter of his academic journey. Graduating from MAST Academy (@mastmakos), Bradshyr immersed himself in his academics, enrolling in multiple advanced placement/dual-enrollment courses, clubs, and volunteer opportunities.

Dedicated to giving back to his community, Bradshyr made #Breakthroughs happen as the MAST Academy Coding Club Treasurer and Manager, MAST Academy Law Club Group Coordinator and Media Manager, Project Better Miami Co-Founder and Website Manager, SGA Senior Class Cambridge Liaison, and as the MAST Academy Spilt Milk Art Editor for the school magazine.

Continuing his community involvement, Bradshyr was actively involved with our Breakthrough Miami Village at @miami_country_day_school, Growlight at @fiuinstagram, Project Destined, @theunderlinemia, Unyted Learning, and the @nyahproject, where his many achievements and efforts granted him the honor of traveling to Ghana and being selected as a #NyahFellow.

When not preoccupied with his academic responsibilities, Bradshyr enjoys volunteering at MAST Academy School Supply Drives and staying active with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Entering a new era of Breakthroughs, Bradshyr has recently been accepted to the University of Central Florida (@ucf.edu), Florida Southern College (@floridasouthern), @PennState, and the University of South Florida (@usouthflorida). Bradshyr will attend the University of Central Florida in the fall.

CARLOS GANCEDO

Breakthrough Miami has completely changed my life for the better, as it shaped me into the young man I am today. It establishes a great work ethic in young students and teaches endless lessons from Teaching Fellows and mentors.” Carlos Gancedo

Making Breakthroughs happen as a student at @SouthwestMiamiHigh and as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Carlos is well-prepared to make future #Breakthroughshappen.

With a determination to pursue a meaningful education, Carlos enrolled in Dual-Enrollment Preparing For Student Success and Psychology of Personal Effectiveness courses. Leading a strong impact in our community, Carlos was a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami) and the @Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program. Giving back to his community, Carlos has volunteered an impressive 200+ hours at his Church’s daycare, caring for our community’s youth.

Remaining active outside of the classroom, Carlos actively enjoys playing basketball and volleyball and often serves as a coach.

Pursuing new Breakthroughs, Carlos has committed to attending @fiuinstagram and will pursue a degree in finance. In the future, Carlos hopes to graduate with a masters degree.

DADLY LEON

Being a Breakthrough Miami Scholar opened up a lot of opportunities for me. Before Breakthrough, I had never even heard of a private school and I never thought I would be able to attend an institution as distinguished as Ransom. Breakthrough Miami has helped me reach my full potential.” Dadly Leon

As a strong community leader, Dadly developed her leadership through numerous community events and activities during her time as a student and Scholar at @ransomevergladesschool. Alongside a small team of her peers, Dadly won the first ever nation-wide TechRise student competition with @NASA and constructed an experiment to accompany a suborbital spacecraft.

Looking to further her education and expand her knowledge, Dadly enrolled in multiple advanced placement courses including Physics, Psychology, Calculus, and Computer Science.

Beyond her responsibilities as a Scholar and student, Dadly invested her time into her community as a member of Create for a Cause Club, the Ransom Everglades Programming Team, Advanced Chemical Experiments, and Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami). Giving back in hopes of creating positive change, Dadly volunteered at mangrove cleanups, as a tutor, and for our Breakthrough Miami Village.

In her free time, Dadly likes remaining active through rowing. Dadly’s impact in our community and successes as a student awarded her the incredible honor of being selected as a @questbridge Scholar.

With her sights now set on the future as a proud #FirstGeneration student, Dadly will be attending @Columbia University to reach post-secondary success and continue making #Breakthroughs happen.

DAMIAN BARBOSA

I joined Breakthrough and saw an example of what I could be and achieve. I was connected with people who were diverse and had goals that I never imagined. Breakthrough inspired me to chase excellence, and from there I set goals for what I wished to accomplish while in high school. Damian Barbosa

Pursuing academic excellence as a student at Ronald W. Reagan Doral Senior High (@reagan_bison), Damian expanded his academic portfolio by enrolling in Advanced Placement and Dual-Enrollment courses including Human Geography, U.S Government & Politics, Statistics, and Algebra. Through his many efforts to further his education, Damian will be graduating in the top 10% of his class at Ronald Reagan Senior High, with an Associates Degree, and with a Cambridge AICE Diploma.

In addition to making #Breakthroughs happen as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschoolhost site, Damian was involved in numerous clubs at his school including Health Information Project (HIP), Student Government, Inter-Club Council, National Math Honor Society, and FCCLA. Leading impact in our community, Damian served as a volunteer at his school during Summer 2022, aiding the Student Government with event planning.

Damian will soon be attending @fiuinstagram to pursue a degree in English, a Masters in Creative Writing, and “Breakthrough” as a writer for movies, tv, and video games.

DANIEL ODI

Breakthrough gave me an opportunity to pursue my interests in and out of the classroom. More importantly, I was able to connect to and learn from many people with unique experiences and perspectives. Daniel Odi

As a student seeking academic excellence at the School for Advanced Studies (@saswhitetigers) North Campus, Daniel enrolled in multiple advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including Chemistry, Calculus, and Trigonometry. As an active member of our community and Village, Daniel dedicated time to Volunteering at @fairchildgarden, the Math & Coding Club, and for our Breakthrough Miami Saturday and Summer programming days at @ransomevergladesschool.

During his time as a student, Daniel remained engaged with his community through various extra curricular activities including Black Student Union, and the Science and Debate clubs. Creating #Breakthroughs on the courts, Daniel was an active football player and track runner at Dr Michael Krop Senior High (@kropshs).

Through his many efforts and successes, Daniel will be proudly graduating high school with an associates degree, an acceptance from @ucf.edu, and as an #HonorRoll recipient.

DORLOUSHIE AMBROISE

An exceptional student and Scholar, Dorloushie is graduating as an #HonorRoll student from Barbara Goleman Senior High (@barbaragolemansrhigh) and well equipped to make #Breakthroughs happen.

During her high school matriculation, Dorloushie excelled in the classroom and actively developed her leadership through involvement in various clubs including serving as the @womenoftomorrow Secretary & Vice President, First Priority President & Vice President, S.W.A.T Florida Vice President, Bring Change to Mind Vice President, Black Student Union Treasurer, Gator Talk Secretary, and as member of Open Minds Open Arms, Key Club, Law Society, Marching and Concert bands, and as a Worship Leader.

Consistently looking for ways to give back to the community, Dorloushie Volunteered at Thanksgiving and Toy Drives, @miamibookfair, Town of Miami Lakes Easter egg hunts, and at beach cleanups.

As a #FirstGeneration student celebrating numerous accomplishments, Dorloushie has recently been accepted to @barryuniversity, @fiuinstagram, @pbauniversity, @pennstate, and @stetsonu.

Dorloushie has committed to St. Thomas University (@stumiami) where she will pursue a major in Criminal Justice & minor in Psychology.

ELKEYSHIA WEBSTER

As a student at the School for Advanced Studies (@saswhitetigers) and #Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Elkeyshia participated in numerous extra curricular activities and enrolled in classes to further advance her education.

Pursuing advanced academic opportunities, Elkeyshia completed 14 dual enrollment courses and enrolled in advanced placement English Literature, Macroeconomics, and Calculus, and more. Elkeyshia’s pursuits towards academic #Breakthroughs granted her the opportunity of graduating with an associates degree.

Seeking community involvement, Elkeyshia was a member of the GSA, BSU, and dance clubs at her school. Giving back to her community and our Village, Elkeyshia also served as a Volunteer at our Ransom Everglades School host site.

Now as a proud #FirstGeneration student, Elkeyshia is celebrating recent acceptances to Florida A&M University (@famu_1887), BSU, @LSU, Grambling State University (@grambling1901), Hampton University (@_hamptonu), and Xavier University of Louisiana (@xula1925).

Elkeyshia will be taking her talents to Tallahassee this fall, joining the Rattler family at Florida A&M University.

EMMA PEREZ

As a student at @SouthwestMiamiHighSchool, Emma excelled academically, enrolling in multiple courses to advance her studies including Biology, Spanish Language, and American History, allowing her to graduate with an Associates Degree. Emma’s many notable accomplishments and efforts awarded her the honor of being selected as a @CarnivalScholarship Awardee and @MiamiHeatScholarship Awardee.

Seeking to create an impact in our community, Emma actively volunteered at the @Camillus_House and @LotusHouseShelter, giving back to those in need. As a strong leader, Emma led community outreach at her church, keeping her community informed on upcoming events.

Looking towards a new era of #Breakthroughs, Emma will be attending @MDCollege to pursue a degree in nursing and “Breakthrough” as a successful nurse practitioner.

ERIKA SERMIOT

My Breakthrough experience has impacted my life’s journey because it has shown me that there are people out there that are willing to help me with whatever I need and hoping that I succeed in life. Breakthrough has taught me to be myself and to not be afraid to win in life. Erika Sermiot

A #SilverKnight Nominee graduating from North Miami Beach Senior High (@nmbchargers), Erika’s commitment to Breakthroughs and opportunity is evident in all she does. Looking to advance her education, Erika enrolled in multiple advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including but not limited to AP World History, Biology, and DE Psychology and Music Appreciation. Actively participating in extracurricular activities, Erika was a valued member of the
Class of 2023 Club, Student Government Association, and the JROTC Drill Team. Leading change, Erika served as President of the National Honor Society and her local Choir.

As a Scholar at our @palmertrinity host site, Gianna was engaged in her studies and actively shared Breakthrough Miami’s mission and message with her community.

Isabella embodies the very characteristics of a true #changemaker. As a student at @miamiartsstudio and Scholar at our @carrolltonsacredheart host site, Isabella sought opportunities that would help her advance academically. Understanding the power of a valuable education, Isabella enrolled in advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including: Calculus, World History, and Psychology.

Seeking to make an impact in her community, Isabella was involved with the Speech and Debate Club, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), National Honor Society, Florida Law Honor Society, the Class of 2023 Board, and was the Health Information Project’s Secretary. Creating mental and physical Breakthroughs, Isabella stayed active through dance and cheerleading, and led as a recreational coach at Leyva Gymnastics (@leyvagym).

Continuing her community involvement, Isabella served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, a @vicecitydance Summer and Winter Camp Volunteer, and participated in the Middle School Law Program’s after school activities for an impressive total of 534 hours.

Jaida is not only an exceptional student, but an active member of her community through multiple service and Volunteer experiences. Throughout her time at Miami Central High School (@mcsh_rockets), Jaida pursued a rigorous academic schedule through advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses. Jaida also pursued immersive extracurricular experiences, including being a member of the Top Teens of America (TTA) and the student government – public affairs. Maintaining an active mind and body, Jaida is an active volleyball player and cheerleader.

Possessing a passion for community support, Jamari Volunteered at numerous community clean ups, helping keep our community safe, clean, and vibrant. Wanting to support other youth in his community, Jamari was an esteemed member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Miami (@bbbsmiami).

Beyond his Scholar and student responsibilities, Jamari enjoys playing chess and football, and is developing strong leadership skills through work.

Actively engaging with her community, Jaydis was a valued member of the Women on Wall Street, Metamorphosis Club, and Environmental Action Clubs. Creating both physical and mental Breakthroughs, Jaydis led as the Girls Varsity Soccer Team Manager. Committed to giving back, Jaydis served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, and a Lotus House Women’s Shelter Volunteer, where she assisted in research development to find an end to homelessness for women and children.

Seeking extracurricular involvement, Jeremiah was a member of the Performing and Visual Arts Center (PAVAC) drama program and assisted in an after-school program at @TRUPrepAcademy during summers. As a graduating #HonorRoll student from the Medical Academy for Science and Technology (@mastmedical), Jeremiah kickstarted his journey towards his future career, enrolling in advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including Biology, Environmental Science, and Calculus.

Connecting with his peers and community, Jeremiah was an esteemed member of the TSA/Robotics Club, Chess Club, NEHS, Mu Alpha Theta, and Pre-Med club. Actively leading, Jeremiah served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Student Government. Beyond excelling in the classroom, Jordan actively sought out ways to be involved in programs that would allow him to drive change. Aside from his leadership in our Village as a Scholar, Jordan served as President of the Black Student Union, Council for #GulliverPrep DEI, Founder & President of the Culture Club, Decision Council for G-Pach, a Link Mentor, member of the Embrace Christian Culture Club, and News Director for Raidervision.

During freshman year, Jordan attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference as a Student Attendee, being among one of six students selected to attend with student leaders from across the U.S. and abroad.

Actively supporting his community as a Volunteer, Jordan has served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, a Volunteer Assistant Coach for Gulliver Prep’s Summer Basketball Camp, and has organized Shoe Drives for homeless youth. Jordan also is an accomplished basketball player with Gulliver’s varsity team.

Pursuing a higher education as a high school student, Jovani’s enrollment and success in over ten advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses has allowed him the #Breakthrough of graduating with an Associate’s Degree.

Seeking extracurricular involvement, Jovani made Breakthroughs happen as a member of the Math Honor Society, MOSTEC Program, the Youth Advisory Committee, and as Vice-President of the Math Club.

Outside of his many academic successes, Jovani led impact in our community, volunteering at his local library, community garden, at Habitat for Humanity House, and at Tree Giveaway.

Eager to enter a new academic chapter, Jovani will be attending the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (@mitpics) and pursue a major in math and physics before entering graduate school. In the future, Jovani hopes to work in computational mathematics or as a math researcher.

As a student at @barbaragolemansrhigh, Kevin made his education a priority by enrolling in multiple advanced placement courses, allowing him to graduate as an #HonorRoll student. Following his successes as a student and Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschool host site, Kevin was recognized and awarded by the @Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Committed to community, Kevin participated in various beach clean-ups and donation events during his time as a student. Seeking opportunities to advance his leadership skills, Kevin was an esteemed member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami) – the nation’s largest mentoring network. As a student at South Dade Senior High School (@southdadehs), Kimora fully immersed herself in her education, enrolling in multiple AP, dual-enrollment, and IB coursework. Valuing extra curricular involvement, Kimora was a valued member of the Spanish Honor Society, Drama Club, STAND Club, @womenoftomorrow, and the Science Honor Society. Through all her efforts, Kimora will be graduating as an #HonorRoll recipient.

As a Scholar at our @palmertrinity host site, Kimora was engaged in her education and excelled academically. Continuing her support for our Village and community, Kimora Volunteered for Breakthrough during the summer of 2021, and dedicated time to volunteering at her church.

Being a Breakthrough Scholar has opened my world to so many more options and opportunities that I never before thought possible. Leah joined our Breakthrough Village as a Scholar at our @GulliverPrep_ host site with a determination to create Breakthroughs for herself and her peers.

As a graduating student from @RansomEvergladesSchool, Leah pursued a meaningful education, enrolling in multiple advanced placement courses including English Language and Composition, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics, and U.S History.

With a deep passion for community involvement, Leah was a proud member of the Black Students Association and Miami Venturing Entrepreneurs. Leading change, Leah served as the Varsity Captain for her softball team and as Band president. Sharing her skills as a changemaker with our Village, Leah led as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer during Breakthrough Saturdays. Creating additional Breakthroughs outside of the classroom, Leah actively plays volleyball, basketball, and enjoys crew.

Leah will soon continue to make Breakthroughs happen at Hampton University (@_hamptonu) where she will pursue degrees in Business Finance and Film. Upon graduating, Leah dreams of “Breaking Through” in a job in the film industry.

Manuel entered our program as a Scholar at @miami_country_day_school with a determination to succeed academically. As a graduating student from Miami Lakes Educational Center (@mlecjaguars), Manuel participated in extra curricular activities, leading as a member of the Hispanic Heritage Club and Volunteering at Tree Planting events at local parks. Through Manuel’s many efforts and successes, he will be graduating with a certificate in mechanics.

Looking towards his bright future, Manuel will be attending Miami Dade College (@MDCollege) as a proud shark and hopes to “Breakthrough” in the automobile industry, modifying cars that haven’t been modified before.

As a Breakthrough Miami Scholar, I learned life skills and gained access to opportunities that I never knew were possible. Now as a Teaching Fellow, I have the chance to guide the new generation in navigating the world and the job market. Enthusiastic about community involvement, Maya led as the President of the Youth Advisory Committee – South Branch, Vice President and Social Media Manager of PSI Alpha, Secretary of Black Student Union, Teen Ambassador for @theunderlinemia, Social Media Manager of Philosophy Club, and as a Teaching Fellow & Lead Volunteer for Breakthrough Miami. Committed to ensuring positive change within our community and the world around her, Maya was a Conservation Teen Scientist, member of the Youth Advisory Committee, and a member of the philosophy club. A community leader, Melanie served as a Breakthrough Miami President, a Breakthrough Miami Council Officer, an Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG Certified), a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, Treasurer of Eagle Fan Club for 2 years, and as an Orientation Representative for Medical Academy.

Devoted to participating within her community, Mia served as a @vitashospice Intern assisting hospice patients, a Breakthrough Miami Teaching Fellow and an Academic Success Coach at @miami_country_day_school, a @TheChildrensTrust Summer Intern, Church Volunteer/Media Assistant/Teacher Assistant for youth groups, and a Dr. Henry W. Mack West Little River K-8 Center Tutor (@themack_k8) tutoring children in math and reading.

Striving for excellence as a student at Coral Gables Senior High (@coralgables_shs) and as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschoolhost site, Randy excelled academically through numerous engagement opportunities. Pursuing a meaningful education, Randy enrolled in various dual-enrollment courses including Public Relations, Literature, and Writing.

As a strong leader in his community, Randy was the Sophomore Representative for the Academy of Finance (AOF) and Future Business Leaders of America’s Board of Membership, Treasurer for AOF during his junior and senior years, and the Treasurer for Best Buddies. Keeping active both in the classroom and on the courts, Randy was an avid badminton player.

During his time as a student, Rogelio prioritized being involved with his community through extracurricular activities and Volunteer work. Shaya is an exemplary student and an active member of her community through various volunteer experiences. Throughout her time as a student at @coralreefhs, Shaya pursued an ambitious academic schedule inside and outside the classroom. Pursuing extra curricular involvement, Tamia was a member of the Black Students Association, Women Empowered Club, Health Information Project, HealthcaRE, CuRE Club, REscue Club, and the Volunteer Service Council. As a strong community leader, Tamia served as an Assistant Director for a drama organization and church, and as captain of her soccer team. Enrolling in advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including Studio Art and Psychology, Tanisha expanded her knowledge exponentially.

Sharing her skills as a leader with our community, Tanisha has served as a Breakthrough Miami Volunteer at our Carrollton host site, a Liberty City Trust (YEP) & PTAC (@pammteen) Volunteer, and a Fit2Lead Intern. Whitney’s love for community and education are evident in all she does. As a graduating student from Florida Virtual School (@floridavirtualschool), and Scholar from our @carrolltonsacredheart host site, Whitney made the most of her #Scholar and student experiences. Navigating personal life and student responsibilities, Whitney reached numerous achievements including graduating as an #HonorRoll student.

As a student, Whitney was enrolled in AP courses, involved in the Pop Culture and Cooking Clubs, dedicated time to tutoring elementary school students, and Volunteered with Breakthrough Miami during her Freshman year.

Now as a proud #FirstGeneration student, Whitney has been accepted into @university.of.maine and Washington College (@washcoll) where we know she will continue to excel. She will be attending Washington College (@washcoll).

As an #HonorRoll student and Carnival Scholarship Awardee seeking academic success at Miami Northwestern Senior High (@mnwbulls55), Zachary made significant moves to further his education, enrolling in advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses including Music Theory, Human Geography, Psychology, and Freshman studies.

Zachary was actively involved with his community as a student, leading change in DECA, the National Honors Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters (@bbbsmiami), and Yearbook Club. Applying his leadership skills, Zachary served as Section Leader and Secretary of The Mighty Marching Bulls (@themmb_band) and as a EESAC Student Representative.

Aside from making #Breakthroughs happen as a Scholar at our @ransomevergladesschoolhost site, Zachary led impact as a volunteer for Community Youth Against Violence, our Breakthrough Miami Village, and for Strong is the New Sexy, a non-profit women’s health awareness organization.

Now a proud #FirstGeneration student, Zachary will be attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (@famu_1887) to pursue a degree in Biological Sciences. In the future, Zachary hopes to become a pharmacist and make a difference in his community as a leader and role model to other youth.
