As part of the LLF's mission to give back and make a positive impact in the lives of children in our communities, this impactful & meaningful event sparked "breakalicious" joy for our Scholars through thoughtful gifts, pockets of peace, and plenty of holiday cheer. ✨

Help us welcome Carolina McCormick, Breakthrough Miami's Events, Engagement & Stewardship Coordinator, to our dream team! 🙌

Carolina is a recent graduate of @UniOfStAndrews in Scotland where she earned a Master of Arts with Distinction, focusing on International Relations, Sustainable Development, Management, and Anthropology. With a strong academic background and hands-on experience in leadership, event management, and education, she has demonstrated a commitment to community involvement and creative problem-solving. Committed to expanding educational opportunities for youth, Carolina has worked as a head counselor and art teacher. She also has coordinated large-scale events, and conducted historical research for a charitable foundation.

Prior to her new role, Carolina completed an internship at Breakthrough Miami as a Development Intern, supporting our Development Team with donor stewardship, event coordination and volunteer engagement. Carolina has meaningfully contributed to the efficacy, advancement and efficiency of the team. She creates meaningful connections with Breakthrough’s vibrant community of supporters and volunteers and is positioned to continue her impact in her full-time role.

Carolina is fluent in English and conversational in Mandarin and Spanish, is passionate about outdoor recreation, traveling, and giving back to her community.

#Shoutout to Breakthrough Miami Volunteer and 10th-grade student at Vista Park High School, Jaiden Beauburn!

Jaiden has been an active and spirited member of our Village since our early days at @SaintAndrewsSchool, serving as a Lead Volunteer and a mentor to our Scholars. He takes pride in leading by example and is respectful & kind to the staff at Saint Andrews. Jaiden's welcoming nature and kind spirit has made him a favorite amongst his friends, peers, and our Breakthrough Scholars.

Demonstrating his steadfast determination to excel, Jaiden is a part of the AICE program - A series of specialized courses aimed at preparing students for honors degree programs.

Upon his graduation in 2027, Jaiden is interested in becoming a track and field college athlete, or pursuing a degree in business administration.

Given Jaiden's recent successes as a Volunteer, we are excited to eventually see him "breakthrough" as a Teaching Fellow! Congratulations, Jaiden! 👏

Fully committing to his Scholar journey, Oliver attends every Super Saturday programming day at our @GulliverPrep_ host site eager and prepared to learn. Jumping into his studies and responsibilities enthusiastically, Oliver is always excited to be on campus with his peers. Oliver is currently in his first year at Gulliver Prep, and he has already made the Principal Honor Roll, demonstrating his determination to succeed academically.

Outside of his academic responsibilities, Oliver is an active soccer player and enjoys playing chess.

Upon graduating in 2031, Oliver dreams of attending an Ivy League college and pursue a career in finance. 💰

Ralph is a leader and a shining beacon of kindness at our @SaintAndrewsSchool host site, displaying what it truly means to be a Breakthrough Scholar. Since beginning his Breakthrough journey, Ralph has broken out of his shell and has committed himself to growing and excelling at his studies.

Proving his commitment to giving back and helping others, Ralph was selected to be a member of the safety patrol at his school, Crosspointe Elementary.

Upon his graduation in 2032, Ralph hopes to attend college and pursue a degree in the science field. He has hopes of making his mom and home country of the Philippines, proud.

#Shoutout to Breakthrough Miami Volunteer, Kayla Carey! ✏️

Kayla's attention to detail, kind heart, and impressive skillset have earned her recognition as our @GulliverPrep_ Volunteer of the Month! During our Super Saturday programming days, Kayla ensures that all materials and equipment are in their designated areas, and even stays after programming hours to make sure all items are accounted for. She enthusiastically participates in careers activities and makes sure that our Gulliver Scholars are engaged as well.

Extending her service into her community, Kayla is a member of the Black Student Union, Environmental Club, Dish Out Kindness Club, Raider Pals, the Smart Club, and the Future Society of Women Engineers.

When she graduates this year, Kayla will pursue her dreams of kickstarting her journey toward obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

#Shoutout to Breakthrough Miami Scholar and 8th-grade student at @SomersetAcademySilverPalms, Joseph Prosper! 🍎

Joseph exemplifies what it means to be an enthusiastic and cooperative Scholar. Joseph works seamlessly with both our administration and his Teaching Fellows at our @PalmerTrinity site while fostering strong, supportive relationships with his peers. Known for his positive and welcoming spirit, Joseph’s pleasant attitude brightens every interaction.

Aside from being considered a "cool" kid on campus, Joseph remains humble and approachable. He never hesitates to make new friends, stand up for others, or show kindness in small but meaningful ways. Whether it’s saying "please" and "thank you" or greeting the Palmer Trinity maintenance staff with respect, Joseph’s actions reflect his character and genuine care for others.

Outside of our Village, Joseph is a yellow and white belt with 5 stripes in Jiu-Jitsu, and also is a linebacker and defense end on his school's football team.

Looking toward future Breakthroughs, Joseph wishes to study Sports Medicine at @UnivMiami and play football.

#Shoutout to Breakthrough Miami Volunteer and Junior at New World School of the Arts, Ayanna Zeigler! ✏️

Ayanna is a true rode model and an exceptional changemaker at our @Miami_Country_Day_School host site. Ayanna's Breakthrough journey began as a Scholar in 2018 where she was introduced to our Village, impact, and mission. Feeling the "breakalicious" spirit Ayanna advanced her journey as a Volunteer to continue serving her community and further fuel her love for Breakthrough.

Throughout her service as a Volunteer, Ayanna has had a positive impact on our younger Scholars by leading engaging lessons and electives. During one of our most recent Super Saturdays, Ayanna supported leading a theater elective alongside former Teaching Fellow, Ethan Torres, where she assisted our Scholars with writing ambiguous monologue scripts.

When she graduates in 2026, Ayanna is interested in majoring in either dance or physical therapy.

On #InternationalEnvironmentalEducationDay, we're turning the tide and shining a light on our friends and partners at @miamiwaterkeeper and @bluescholarsinitiative for their collective work in keeping our Scholars informed and engaged on our South Florida ecosystems. 🐟

Through hands-on conservation activities, water testing experiences, and ocean clean-ups, Miami Waterkeeper and Blue Scholars Initiative have been instrumental in educating our Scholars on crucial ocean conservation practices and conversations.

Angel’s exceptional leadership skills and enthusiasm at our Palmer Trinity site have made her a standout member of our Palmer team. Whether stepping up to take the lead on challenging tasks or rolling up her sleeves for less glamorous jobs, Angel consistently sets an inspiring example for her peers.

Angel's ability to work independently, think on her feet, and collaborate with others has earned her the admiration of Palmer Trinity Assistant Site Director, Zakiya Greene. Multiple Volunteers have personally nominated Angel for this recognition which is a testament to her impact and excellence as a changemaker.

Beyond her academic responsibilities as a student at Robert Morgan Educational Center and as a Breakthrough Miami Scholar, Angel is currently the Vice President of the AAC (African American Club).

Upon her graduation in 2027, Angel dreams of becoming a chef and owning her own restaurant. 🍽️

#Shoutout to Breakthrough Miami Scholar and 7th-grade student at Ada Merritt K-8 Center, Melanie Castellanos! 🍎

Melanie was selected as the @RansomEvergladesSchool Scholar of the Month due to her strong commitment to academic success. Melanie approaches both Breakthrough Miami programming activities and her own school challenges at @AdaMerrittK8Center with a positive attitude and pure determination. One word to describe Melanie is consistent; She has showed up to every programming day at Ransom Everglades and brings her contagious and uplifting energy. Logan Bright, Assistant Site Director at Ransom Everglades, wishes to recognize and encourage Melanie throughout her Breakthrough journey as she continues improving herself and boosting her academics.

As Melanie continues to figure out her life trajectory, one of her future goals that she has expressed is to become a doctor. She knows she wants to help others, and would like to continue to have fun while doing so. Melanie has demonstrated artistic and creative talents which are sure to be a part of her future.

We are extremely appreciative of not only Melanie, but also her family who have been just as much of a consistent part of our Breakthrough Miami Village as Melanie has.
