Breakthrough Miami’s 5th Annual Race to Breakthrough turns Truly EPIC!

We’ve reached the Race finish line, but the breakthroughs are just beginning!

Breakthrough Miami’s 5th Annual Race to Breakthrough was… yes, EPIC! This year, in honor of our fifth anniversary Race, we set out to continue expanding our Village—and together, we most certainly did just that!

An unprecedented 824 participants from across the globe joined the Race this year, embracing the opportunity to make a move for breakthroughs. United by shared purpose, we raised $150,000, directly empowering 30 Scholars through a year of transformative Breakthrough Miami programming.

The exponential growth of the Race demonstrates the power and collective impact of our global village. The student-led, virtual race has evolved into a beloved Labor Day tradition, kicking off our school year programming in breakalicious spirit like a big global pep rally. We were thrilled to see so many creative ways you participated—from exploring with elephants to playing pickleball, cycling, swimming, sailing, and beyond! Team Spirit was in full effect this year, from cross country to basketball, football, swimming, golf, cheerleading, and more. A very special thanks to our outstanding Student Captains, Race Chairs, and organizing committee for taking this year’s Race to new heights.

There are many stories of creativity, inspiration, and motivation throughout the Race To Breakthrough. This year, unquestionably, one story stood out as exemplary of our work and potential. Wrapping up the Race was a special gift from Amelie Pupo-Mayo, a Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart sophomore. In lieu of gifts for her birthday this year, Amelie encouraged her friends and family to make a donation towards Breakthrough Miami.

“All I wanted for my birthday was to see more teenagers and kids receive the same opportunities that she has been blessed with. I love her with all my heart and I wouldn’t change having met her for the world.”

Her selfless act is a powerful example of how students can create lasting impacts within their community, especially by supporting organizations like Breakthrough Miami. For Amelie, this year’s birthday celebration was not about receiving but giving back—an act of kindness that will be remembered for years to come.

As we keep the momentum going, there are countless ways to stay in the action— join us as a student volunteer, an adult volunteer, or a professional partner. Get in the game with us here.

Together, we’re making EPIC breakthroughs possible.
