Helios Making Breakthrough Scholars FUTURE READY.
Breakthrough Miami proudly announces its selection as one of just five organizations statewide to receive a highly competitive postsecondary success grant from the Helios Education Foundation. This significant grant will enable us to expand our evidence-based college access programming, ensuring our Scholars excel academically and achieve postsecondary success. Over three years, the initiative will increase Scholar enrollment in accelerated courses, enhance academic and college advising, and launch a BreakthroughU North site, further expanding Breakthrough’s capacity to serve 1,800 Scholars annually.

As we celebrate the achievements and college journeys of the Class of 2025, we are getting down to work with our rising Juniors and Seniors. Next week, we’ll kick into summer gear with College BootCamp, the signature summer intensive of our growing College Access Mentoring Program (C.A.M.P.). Designed to give rising seniors and juniors a head start on their college journey, BootCamp equips Scholars with the tools, guidance, and confidence to navigate the college application process—maximizing the summer months to stay ahead of the curve.
Throughout the summer, bookended with two focused in-person weeks, Breakthrough Scholars will complete the Common App, draft and refine personal statements, explore scholarships, and demystify financial aid. Juniors will join in during the second week to dive into intensive test preparation.
This investment allows us to:
- Scale one-on-one mentorship for all BreakthroughU juniors and seniors
- Increase Scholar enrollment in accelerated courses
- Deepen access to resources and professional guidance
- Expand reach to serve more Scholars and expand BreakthroughU
- Pilot success coaching for college persistence
More than 80% of Breakthrough Scholars are consistently thriving in accelerated courses, headed to on-time graduation (100%) and immediate enrollment in college (98%).
