A letter from our CEO to the Village
Dear Breakthrough Miami Village,
I hope this note finds you and your families safe and healthy. I recognize that everyone is dealing with unique and uncertain times. I am pleased to share that our team has committed to #BreakthroughTheDistance and we are enthusiastically working to keep our Village engaged and connected.
We have suspended our traditional on-site academic and community programming through April 15th to safeguard the health and well-being of our Breakthrough Village, most importantly, our Scholars, volunteers and staff, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, our work continues.
Our program team is diligently working to support our Scholars to adapt and thrive in the midst of rapid changes. You can see our evolving communications and resources accessible online here. In the coming weeks you will find us in all sorts of new modalities, indicative of our commitment to further our mission while adapting to changing environments:
-
Our Volunteers are developing virtual lessons, taking our signature students-teaching-students and hands-on learning into the remote learning world.
-
Our Site Directors are hosting virtual Friday night “hang outs”, playlists and games to connect Scholars and volunteers alike and nurture our sense of community.
-
We are working with our partners to deliver engaging virtual programming aligned with our curricular themes.
-
Our team is connecting directly with Scholars and families to assist them in navigating the online learning curriculum, tools and resources to ensure our Scholars stay ahead of the curve.
-
We are working around the clock to connect our families to valuable resources provided by dozens of agencies to ensure basic needs are met.
Many of you have inquired about how the Village can best Support A Scholar in these critical times, and we deeply appreciate your support. We are humbled by the ways you consistently prioritize Breakthrough in your busy lives.
Given the pandemic’s fluidity and uncertainty, we will continue to actively monitor the situation, adjust accordingly, and continue to share significant changes in our operations with you. We firmly believe during these uncertain times our work is more important than ever. We appreciate your unwavering support. It truly takes a Village.
Be well. In the spirit of breaking through,
Lori-Ann M. Cox
