Mock Interview Day 2026: Connections, Confidence, and Career-Ready Scholars
Last week, our Scholars stepped into a room full of possibility – resumes in hand, confidence building, and futures taking shape.
Nerves mixed with breakalicious swagger and excitement filled the air, as our BreakthroughU Scholars introduced themselves to professionals ready to share their expertise, feedback, and encouragement. For the past three months, Scholars had been preparing for this moment – crafting resumes, developing brag sheets, and practicing interview etiquette with support from partners like Get Hired, University of Miami Toeppel Career Center, and Arista Consulting. This preparation gave them the foundation to confidently navigate Mock Interview Day.
Seventy-six professionals from across industries participated in Mock Interview Day this year, leading a rotation of one-on-one mock interviews, giving each Scholar a structured 15-minute session followed by time for immediate feedback, guidance, and coaching. Scholars rotated through three interviews, practicing how to present themselves, articulate their strengths, and answer challenging questions, all in a safe, supportive environment. What started as initial introductions quickly became dynamic conversations, with Scholars gaining confidence, sharpening their storytelling, and building professional connections, key to propelling our Scholars towards college, scholarships, internships, and jobs.
Our Scholars looked the part, sharply dressed in professional attire supported by our partners at Dress for Success. Maximizing the day, each Scholar had a professional headshot taken by Patrick Farrell, award-winning photographer with the Miami Herald.
The impact was immediate. Scholars left with stronger interviewing skills, new connections, clarity around their goals, and tangible skills to carry into college, scholarships, and future careers. For many, it was also a moment of inspiration, seeing firsthand the diverse career paths and experiences professionals have navigated, and realizing the possibilities that lie ahead for themselves.
We are grateful for all the professionals who volunteered to make this experience possible.
Moments like these remind us that exposure, mentorship, and encouragement are powerful tools in helping young people map out their futures. Each coaching conversation, piece of advice, and shared experience can help a Scholar envision and realize their path of greatest potential. ♦
